Brand-New Fuseboard with Arc Fault Protection for a Nursery

A local nursery needed its ageing consumer unit replaced to meet the higher safety expectations of a premises full of young children. We installed a brand-new fuseboard fitted throughout with Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs).

Full new metal consumer unit to the latest BS 7671 18th Edition standard
AFDD (arc fault detection) protection on final circuits to guard against fire caused by damaged or loose wiring
RCBO protection on every circuit so a single fault never takes out the whole board
Surge protection (SPD) fitted to protect sensitive equipment
Full circuit testing, labelling and an Electrical Installation Certificate issued digitally

Arc fault protection is strongly recommended in higher-risk premises such as nurseries and care settings, and is increasingly expected under the Wiring Regulations. It detects the dangerous arcing that ordinary breakers miss — one of the leading causes of electrical fires.

For a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO), we designed and installed a complete life-safety package: a mains-powered fire alarm system to BS 5839 and emergency lighting to BS 5266, wired back to dedicated protected circuits.

Periodic inspection and testing across a commercial building, including main distribution, changeover and standby supply arrangements — all documented in a clear, jargon-free condition report.
